Cambodia Branding Forum

Better places. Stronger stories. Shared opportunities.

The Cambodia Branding Forum (CBF) is a platform for dialogue, collaboration and action on place branding and placemaking in Cambodia.
Created by Millennium Destinations in 2024, CBF helps cities, provinces and destinations become more attractive, competitive, sustainable and inclusive places to visit, live, work, invest, create and host events.
CBF goes beyond destination marketing. A strong place brand is not only about a logo, slogan or campaign. It depends on the real quality and identity of the place, and on the experiences and opportunities it creates for local communities, residents, businesses and visitors.
CBF connects:
Place branding & storytelling · Placemaking · Tourism & experiences · Investment & entrepreneurship · Community development · Partnerships & governance
The aim is to turn local identity and ideas into better places, stronger experiences and practical opportunities.

Why does place branding matter?

Cambodia has exceptional assets: heritage, culture, nature, creativity, hospitality, local knowledge and communities.
But building an attractive place requires more than promotion.
It requires a clear identity, quality experiences, good places to live and visit, stronger collaboration and development that creates value locally.
CBF helps connect how a place is seen with how it is developed and experienced.
This means thinking beyond tourists alone. Successful places also attract and retain residents, talent, entrepreneurs, investors, students, creatives and events.

From place branding to placemaking

CBF brings branding and placemaking together.
Place branding helps define what makes a place distinctive, what it stands for and how its story is shared.
Placemaking helps translate that identity into the place itself — its experiences, public spaces, businesses, services, cultural life, communities and opportunities.
CBF helps stakeholders move from ideas to action by connecting:
Identity → Storytelling → Placemaking → Experiences → Partnerships → Action → Impact
The goal is simple: a place should not only look attractive in a campaign. It should be attractive in real life.

What happens at the Cambodia Branding Forum?

CBF brings together people who influence the future of places, including government, businesses, investors, tourism professionals, communities, development partners, creatives, media, academia and youth.
Each edition focuses on the opportunities and challenges of its host destination.
The format can include:
  • Inspiring talks and conversations
  • Panels and stakeholder dialogues
  • Practical co-creation workshops
  • Networking and partnership building
  • Local experiences and field activities
  • Follow-up ideas and actions
CBF is not a traditional conference. It is interactive, practical and action-oriented.
Topics can range from tourism and destination development to investment, entrepreneurship, talent attraction, culture, events, sustainability, community development and quality of life.

The Lotus Path

Each Cambodia Branding Forum follows Millennium Destinations' Lotus Path approach to destination initiatives and events.
The Lotus Path is based on four principles: Meaningful · Impact-driven · Community-centric · Eco-friendly
It encourages clear objectives, local participation, responsible sourcing, collaboration and practical follow-up.
The principle behind it is simple: place branding should create value for the place and the people who live there — not only promote it.

CBF Editions

Phnom Penh | March 2024: The first Cambodia Branding Forum launched a broader conversation about destination marketing, place branding and how Cambodia can move from volume to value.
Francophonie Edition | Phnom Penh | July 2024: A special edition connecting nation branding, public diplomacy, tourism, culture and economic relations.
Siem Reap | September 2026: Reimagining Siem Reap through Active & Adventure Tourism
The Siem Reap edition explores how active and adventure tourism can contribute to a destination that is more diverse, sustainable and attractive for visitors and local communities.

Co-Host a Cambodia Branding Forum

A CBF edition can be developed for a city, province, destination or site, bringing together local authorities, businesses, communities, creatives and development partners around a shared vision.
Each edition is adapted to the place. It can help stakeholders:
Clarify positioning · Build a shared narrative · Identify placemaking opportunities · Develop experiences · Connect partners · Generate practical actions
Through a collaborative or public-private partnership (PPP) approach, CBF can act as both a place branding platform and a tool for stakeholder alignment and local action.
