Our story
Millennium Destinations (MD), led by CEO Catherine Germier-Hamel, envisions a travel industry where hidden gems, local communities, and the environment thrive together.
Catherine's journey into sustainable tourism began in 2005 in Seoul, South Korea, where she worked with the ST-EP Foundation. Inspired by this, she launched MD in 2010 as a blog promoting eco-friendly destinations, experiences and initiatves. Over time, MD grew into a respected platform advocating for sustainable tourism aligned with the UN's goals.
By 2014, it expanded into a network of experts and in 2016, a boutique consulting firm in Seoul.
Championing Community-Based Tourism (CBT), MD created Herost, an online platform connecting travelers with local heroes for sustainable adventures.
In 2022, MD became a non-profit in France, solidifying its global impact.
The same year, Catherine's journey continued as CEO of Destination Mekong, a Destination Impact Organization in Cambodia promoting sustainable tourism across six countries.
In 2024, Millennium Destinations was established in Phnom Penh.
