Millennium Hikers is a global initiative promoting local sustainable development and community empowerment through responsible, intercultural outdoor and active tourism experiences in a wide variety of environments. Millennium Hikers is also an international community of hikers, walkers and outdood lovers committed to have a positive impact on people and the planet.
Our objectives
To inform, inspire and engage action on the SDGs, towards peace, happiness, shared prosperity, social inclusiveness and environmental sustainability,
To support local development and empowerment, and to reduce territorial inequalities,
To promote the benefits of hiking, walking and outdoor actovities for health and well-being,
Through the design, implementation and promotion of value-added projects, activities, and events promoting sustainable, community-centered outdoor and active tourism experiences such as hiking, trekking and walking.
In 2016, three French expats in Seoul launched Millennium Hikers, a project to promote cooperation on sustainable hiking tourism in France and Korea. The group quickly grew to include hundreds of members, and has organized regular and special walking and hiking events together with key partners. Millennium Hikers is a project of the One Planet Sustainable Tourism Programme, and is committed to promoting sustainable consumption and production in the tourism sector. Millennium Hikers is now a French Association operated from Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

A model for outdoor and hiking tourism to be developed and promoted on domestic and international markets.
Public-Private Partnerships for the co-creation of value-added Millennium Hikers projects, activities and events, in with local authorities, international and local NGOs, businesses as part of sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) policies, strategies and action plans.
Quality contents: stories, pictures, videos, etc. to be shared through various channels: social media platforms, lectures, exhibitions, etc.
Positive marketing and communications: we invite responsible influencers, bloggers, public figures, community leaders, etc. to join our efforts.
Promotion through a variety of online platforms, including Herost, a positive travel guide and toolkit and global network aimed at promoting sustainable, community-driven travel experiences.
Social and environmental responsibility: guidelines and tips to minimize the negative impact on local communities and their environments, inclusiveness and equity, with a special focus on women and discrminated groups, small groups to avoid overcrowding, diversification by including "off-the-beaten-track" destinations and experiences,
Connection and interaction with the locals: we engage in community-based activities and experiences, and eplore the natural and cultural heritage, local traditions, know-how, products, etc.
